Oldřich Nejedlý (born December 26, 1909 – died June 11, 1990) was a famous Czech football player. He played his whole career for Sparta Prague as an inside-forward. Many people think he was one of Czechoslovakia's best players ever. He was the top goal scorer at the 1934 FIFA World Cup.
Playing for Clubs
Oldřich Nejedlý spent most of his football career playing for Sparta Prague. He was a fantastic goal scorer for them. He scored 162 goals in 187 league games.
During his time with Sparta Prague, his team won the Czechoslovak First League championship four times. These wins were in 1932, 1936, 1938, and 1939. He also helped his team win the Mitropa Cup in 1935. Later in his career, he played for SK Rakovník. There, he scored 18 goals in 38 games. In total, he scored 180 goals in 225 league games.
Playing for His Country
Oldřich Nejedlý also played for the Czechoslovakia national team. He scored 29 goals in 44 games for his country. He was a very important player for them.
World Cup Achievements
Nejedlý played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments. He played in the 1934 World Cup in Italy and the 1938 World Cup in France.
In the 1934 World Cup, he was the top goal scorer with five goals. FIFA officially recognized this in 2006. He was also given the Bronze Ball award. This award is for the third most outstanding player in the tournament. He was also chosen for the tournament's All-Star Team.
He scored two more goals in the 1938 World Cup. Sadly, his international career ended after he broke his leg in that tournament.
Oldřich Nejedlý passed away in 1990 when he was 80 years old. It was during the 1990 FIFA World Cup, which was also held in Italy.
