The Old Hickory United Methodist Church group started in 1925. At first, they met in a small gym. This gym is now where the Old Hickory Community Center stands.
Building the Sanctuary
Work on the main church building, called the sanctuary, began soon after. While it was being built, church services were held in the basement. The sanctuary was finished in 1929. It cost about $30,000 to build. The very first service in the new sanctuary was held on the first Sunday of 1929.
