The houses in Old Lake Highlands are quite old, some even 80 years! But there are also new ones being built. This area has had many different names over time.

Before Lake Highlands High School opened, a part of this area called 'The Peninsula' was just known as 'Lake Highlands'. Until 2006, homes north of Northcliff and south of Northwest Highway were called 'Lake Highlands Estates'. There was even a sign on Classen that said so!

Other areas like 'Lake Terrace', 'Lake Highlands Pointe', 'Bel Aire Estates', and 'Park Highlands' have all joined together. They formed the Old Lake Highlands Neighborhood Association. Neighbors came together in the late 1990s. They wanted to build a stronger community. This helped the area become more well-known, like the northern Lake Highlands area or Lakewood, Dallas.
