Old Town is what we call an extinct town or a ghost town in Indiana. It's found in Pike Township within Warren County. This place was actually the very first spot where the town of West Lebanon started!
How Old Town Began
Back in the fall of 1830, three people named Ebenezer Purviance, John G. Jemison, and Andrew Fleming planned out this town. They originally named it Lebanon.
Why the Town Moved
In 1856, the Wabash Railroad built its tracks through the area. But the railroad passed about a mile north of the original town. Because of this, most of the town's people and businesses decided to move closer to the new train station.
When the town officially became a city in 1869, it was at this new location by the railroad. They named the new place West Lebanon. The original spot then became known as Old Town.
What's Left of Old Town
Even though most of the town moved, some buildings are still standing in and around Old Town today. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) still lists Old Town on its maps.
