History of Oley
The community of Oley has a long history. A special office for sending mail, called a post office, was first set up here in 1828. It was originally named Oley Furnace. Later, in 1836, its name was changed to simply Oley. The community got its name from the larger Oley Township it is part of.
The entire Oley Township is considered very important historically. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means its buildings and areas are protected because they tell a story about the past.

Oley is a pretty place with natural features. The Little Manatawny Creek is a small stream that flows through Oley. It moves southeastward and eventually joins the Manatawny Creek. The Manatawny Creek then flows into the Schuylkill River, which is a much larger river.
Oley is also home to some important local places. The Berks Career and Technology Center has a campus here. This center helps students from eastern Berks County learn skills for different jobs.
