Oliver George Pybus is a British scientist who studies how viruses change and spread. He is a professor at the University of Oxford and the Royal Veterinary College. He also helps lead a special program at the Oxford Martin School that focuses on understanding pandemics.

Dr. Pybus is well-known for his research into how viruses evolve and how they cause diseases. He helped create a new area of science called phylodynamics. This field uses information about how viruses change over time to understand how diseases spread through populations. Because of his important work, he has received several awards, including the Scientific Medal from the Zoological Society of London in 2009 and the Mary Lyon Medal in 2019. In 2022, he was also chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society, which is a big honor for scientists.

Becoming a Scientist

Oliver Pybus studied genetics at the University of Nottingham. After that, he went to the University of Oxford to earn his DPhil degree, which is a high-level research degree. He finished his studies in 2000.
