Who Was Oliver Raymond?
Oliver Raymond was born in a place called Belchamp Walter in Essex, England. His father, John Raymond, bought a large estate known as Belchamp Hall in 1611.
His Education and Early Career
Oliver went to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1622. Later, he moved to another college, Christ's College, Cambridge. He also studied law at Lincoln's Inn starting in 1626 and became a lawyer in 1633. This meant he could work in the legal system.

Oliver Raymond became an important figure in English politics during a time when England was not ruled by a king, but by a leader called the Lord Protector.
Serving in Parliament
In 1654, Oliver Raymond was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Essex. This was for the First Protectorate Parliament. A Member of Parliament is someone elected to represent their area and help make laws for the country. He was chosen again in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament.
Later Life and Family
Oliver Raymond passed away in 1679. He was buried in his hometown of Belchamp Walter. He was married to Frances Herries.
