Olivier Corpet (born 4 September 1949 – died 6 October 2020) was a French author and writer. He helped start, and then led, the Institute for Contemporary Publishing Archives for 24 years. This institute works to save and share important documents from publishing history.

About Olivier Corpet

Olivier Corpet was born in Paris, France, on 4 September 1949. He came from a family with interesting connections. His grandfather, Robert Brussel, was a music critic. His great-grandfather, Lucien Corpet, founded a company called Corpet-Louvet.

Olivier studied economics and sociology at a special school called the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences. For his final project, he wrote about a science magazine named Arguments. This magazine was published from 1956 to 1962.

Early Career and Writing

Corpet started his career working as an engineer for the French National Centre for Scientific Research. This is a big research organization in France.

In the early 1970s, he began writing for a magazine called Autogestion. This magazine focused on ideas about "self-management," which means people managing themselves or their workplaces. In 1980, he changed the magazine's name to Autogestions (adding an "s"). He became the director of this magazine until 1986.

Saving Publishing History

In 1985, Olivier Corpet started a group to study scientific magazines. The next year, in 1986, he helped create an association called Ent'revues. This group was based on his research. He also helped create a magazine called Revue des revues with Jean Gattégno.

In 1988, Corpet helped start something very important: the Institute for Contemporary Publishing Archives. He worked with Pascal Fouché and Jean-Pierre Dauphin to create it. Important people like Jack Lang and famous publishers supported this idea. The Institute's goal is to collect and keep safe the history of publishing, like old letters, notes, and documents from writers and publishers.

Olivier Corpet was the director of this Institute for a long time, until 2013. He left his role because of health reasons. He passed on the leadership to Nathalie Léger, Albert Dichy, and André Derval.

Olivier Corpet died in Paris on 6 October 2020. He was 71 years old.

Olivier Corpet received several important awards for his work:

  • Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2013): This is an award from the French government for people who have made important contributions to arts and literature.
  • Knight of the Legion of Honour (2016): This is the highest French order of merit, given for outstanding achievements.
