Oma's Hideaway, which used to be called Oma's Takeaway, is a restaurant located in Portland, Oregon, United States.

About Oma's Hideaway

Oma's Hideaway is a special restaurant in Portland. It serves a mix of tasty foods. These foods are inspired by different cultures. You can find flavors from America, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

How it Started

The restaurant was opened by a married couple, Mariah and Thomas Pisha-Duffly. They first opened it in April 2020. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many businesses faced challenges. Their first restaurant, Gado Gado, was closed then.

Later in 2020, Oma's Takeaway moved to a new spot. It found a home in the Richmond neighborhood of southeast Portland. At this new location, they served barbecue dishes. These dishes were a mix of American, Chinese, and Southeast Asian styles.

The Name's Inspiration

The name "Oma's" comes from Thomas's grandmother. She was born in Indonesia. Thomas lovingly called her "Oma." This shows how family and heritage inspire the restaurant.

Becoming Oma's Hideaway

The restaurant closed for a short time in January 2021. But it soon reopened on May 22. When it reopened, it had a new name: Oma's Hideaway.

With its new name, Oma's Hideaway changed its menu a bit. It started serving foods inspired by night markets in Southeast Asia. Night markets are lively places where people gather to eat street food. The restaurant offered dishes like noodles, char siu (a type of roasted meat), and other Chinese and Malaysian snacks.
