Ombúes de Lavalle is a small city in Uruguay. It's located in the northern part of the Colonia Department.
The city's name has two parts. "Ombúes" comes from the Ombú tree. This tree is very special to both Argentina and Uruguay. "Lavalle" is named after an important Argentine General, Juan Lavalle.

Where is Ombúes de Lavalle?
Ombúes de Lavalle is close to the border of the Soriano Department. It sits right on Route 55. This city is about 3 kilometers south of where Route 55 meets Route 12.
The city is 119 meters (about 390 feet) above sea level. A stream called Miguelete starts near the city. This stream flows into the San Juan River.
A Look at History
Ombúes de Lavalle started as a small community in August 1890. It grew over time.
- On December 14, 1932, it was officially called a "Pueblo" (village).
- Then, on November 17, 1964, it became a "Villa" (town).
- Finally, on May 17, 1984, Ombúes de Lavalle was given the title of "Ciudad" (city).

What to See in Ombúes de Lavalle
The main street in the city is called Juan Zorrilla de San Martín. It connects Route 55 to Conchillas on one end. On the other end, it leads to José Enrique Rodó in the Soriano Department.
Important Places
In the eastern part of the city, you'll find Plaza 1 de Agosto. This is a lovely square and a small park. Next to it are the city's main office, the Junta Local, and a public library.
In the northern part of Ombúes de Lavalle, there's a large open area called Los Ombúes. This area is named after the famous Ombú trees that grow there. You can also find an outdoor sports area, a small clinic, an old mill, a Catholic church, and the city's cultural center in this area.
