The History of Omega
Omega is a small community located in Hamilton County, Indiana. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own city government or mayor. Instead, it's part of a larger area called a township.
A Funny Nickname: Dog Town
Back in the 1800s, Omega had a funny nickname: Dog Town! People started calling it this because of a mail carrier. This person delivered mail to the area and often complained about how many dogs were there. The name "Dog Town" stuck around for a while.
The Omega Post Office
Even with its funny nickname, the community needed a way to send and receive mail. So, a post office was opened in Omega in 1870. A post office is a place where people can send letters and packages. It also helps connect communities.
When the Post Office Closed
The post office in Omega served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1902. This meant that people in Omega had to go to a nearby town to send or pick up their mail. Even though the post office is gone, Omega remains a part of White River Township.
