Onanì (called Onanìe in the Sardinian language) is a small town in the Italian region of Sardinia. It is located in the Province of Nuoro, which is like a county. Onanì is about 140 kilometers (87 miles) north of Cagliari, a larger city, and about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of Nuoro.
As of December 2004, Onanì had about 448 people living there. The town covers an area of about 71.7 square kilometers (27.7 square miles).
Onanì is a comune, which is an Italian word for a municipality or a local government area. It includes a smaller area called Mamone, which is a frazione (a subdivision or hamlet).
The towns that border Onanì are Bitti, Lodè, and Lula.
Population Changes
The number of people living in Onanì has changed over many years. Like many small towns, its population has gone up and down. For example, in 1961, there were about 1,459 people, but by 2001, the population had decreased to 473. This shows how communities can grow and shrink over time.
