OneEleven is a tall apartment building in Chicago, Illinois. It used to be called 111 W. Wacker and Waterview Tower. This building is located right in the heart of downtown Chicago, next to the Chicago River.
It stands between LaSalle Street and Clark Street. The building is a popular place for people to rent homes.
OneEleven was finished in 2014. It was built by a company called Related Midwest. The main architect was Gary Handel from Handel Architects.
The building is about 630 feet (190 m) tall. It has 60 stories and 504 apartments. There are also 470 parking spaces. The building has large areas for fun activities and shops.
Building Design and Features
OneEleven was built on the site of an older, unfinished project. This project was called Waterview Tower. Only 26 floors of the original tower were ever built.
The designers decided to use the existing structure. They removed the old stone outside walls. They replaced them with a shiny glass exterior. They also added 34 more floors to the building's height.
Where the old and new parts of the building meet, there is a special floor. This floor has cool features for residents. It includes an indoor swimming pool, a sunny deck, and outdoor cooking areas.
History of OneEleven
The story of OneEleven began in 2005. That's when construction started on the original Waterview Tower. However, work stopped in May 2008. This happened because of money problems. Only the parking garage and some hotel floors were finished.
The first 26 floors of OneEleven were part of this original plan. Waterview Tower was meant to be a very tall building. It was planned to have 92 stories and be 1,047-foot-tall (319 m). It would have been a hotel and luxury apartments.
In 2011, a new developer, Related Midwest, became interested. They checked if the unfinished building could be saved. The study showed it could be used again. So, they decided to fix it up and add more floors.
In 2012, a new plan was made. The building would no longer be a hotel or condos. Instead, it would become a luxury rental apartment tower. This new design was by Handel Architects. The building would be 59 stories tall and have 506 rental units. It would also have shops on the first floor and parking.
About six months after it opened, in January 2015, the building was sold. It was bought by a company called Heitman. The sale price was very high for an apartment building in Chicago.
