About One Financial Plaza
One Financial Plaza is the second-tallest building in Providence. It stands 413 ft (126 m) tall and has 28 floors. The building was started in 1970 and finished in 1973. It was built by the Hospital Trust Corporation. This company was important for helping to fund the Rhode Island Hospital. The building is an office building.
What It Looks Like
The outside of One Financial Plaza is covered with special pre-cast concrete and travertine. Travertine is a type of limestone. The top of the building has a wide cap with lights. These lights usually glow orange at night. For special holidays, the light colors change. They turn green and red for Christmas, red for Valentine's Day and St. Joseph's Day, and green for St. Patrick's Day.
Its Place in Providence
On top of the roof of One Financial Plaza is the highest helicopter pad in Rhode Island. This means helicopters can land there. The building is one of the three tall buildings often seen in the Providence skyline. You might even recognize it from the television show Family Guy, where it is often shown.
