One Maritime Plaza is a tall office building in San Francisco. It is located in the city's Financial District. This area is where many important businesses and banks are found. The building is close to the Embarcadero Center towers. You can find it on Clay and Front Streets.
The building was finished in 1964. It was first known as the Alcoa Building. It stands about 121 meters (398 feet) tall. Inside, it has 25 floors of office space. The open area around the building, called the plaza, was completed a few years later in 1967.
Cool Design Features
One Maritime Plaza is special because of its design. It was one of the first buildings to use special supports. These supports are called seismic bracing. They look like big X-shapes on the outside. These strong braces help the building stay safe. They make it more stable during earthquakes. This is very important in a city like San Francisco.
