Ophiem is a small place in Henry County, Illinois, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it is a settlement that is not officially part of a city or town, but it still has people living there. Ophiem is located within Lynn Township.
History
Ophiem was started in the year 1850. Two brothers, Johannes and Carl Johan Samuelson, founded the community. They came from Sweden and named the new place "Opphem." This name came from their family farm back in Sweden. Later, in 1871, a post office was opened in Ophiem, making it easier for people to send and receive mail.
