Optare MetroRider facts for kids
The Optare MetroRider was a type of bus made by a company called Optare. It was built between 1989 and 2000. This bus was a midibus, which means it was smaller than a regular bus but bigger than a minibus. It was also a step-entrance bus, meaning you had to step up to get inside, unlike some modern buses that have a low floor.
Types of MetroRider Buses
Electric MetroRider
In 1993, Optare made a special version of the MetroRider that ran on electricity. This was an early step towards buses that don't use gasoline or diesel, helping to keep the air cleaner.
Natural Gas MetroRider
Later, in 1995, another special MetroRider was made. This one used natural gas as its fuel. It had an engine that ran on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Using natural gas is another way to power vehicles that can be better for the environment than traditional fuels.
