In 1950, Officer Coffelt was on duty protecting the Blair House in Washington D.C. At that time, President Harry S. Truman was living there while the White House was being renovated. On November 1, 1950, two armed men tried to break into the Blair House to harm the President.
Officer Coffelt and other guards quickly responded. During the intense shootout, Officer Coffelt was seriously injured while defending the President. He bravely continued to fight, helping to stop the attackers, but he sadly passed away from his injuries. His actions saved President Truman's life and showed amazing courage.
