History of Orange, Indiana
Orange was officially planned out and marked on a map in 1824. This process is called "platting." When a community is platted, it means its streets, lots, and public areas are carefully laid out for future development.
The community got its name from Orange Township, the larger area it is part of. In the early days, a post office was very important for connecting people. A post office was opened in Orange in 1826. It served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1908. This often happened as transportation improved and people could access services in nearby towns.
