Oren Peli (born January 21, 1970) is a filmmaker from Israel. He is famous for writing and directing the scary movie Paranormal Activity in 2007. He also helped produce many other films in the Paranormal Activity and Insidious movie series.

Early Life
Oren Peli was born in Ramat Gan, Israel. When he was 19 years old, he moved to the United States.
Career in Film
Peli first worked as a computer software programmer. He helped create a graphics program called Photon Paint. He also worked on the networking code for the game Mortal Kombat 3.
His first movie, Paranormal Activity, was inspired by his own experiences. When Peli moved into his first house, he heard strange noises at night. This gave him the idea for a film about a family using cameras to record spooky things happening in their home.
After Paranormal Activity became a big hit, Peli worked with James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Together, they created the movie Insidious. Peli also produced and wrote the 2012 horror film Chernobyl Diaries. This movie was based on the Chernobyl disaster. It tells the story of friends vacationing in Europe. They get stuck in the abandoned city of Prypiat, Ukraine. Soon, they discover they are not alone.
Television Shows
In 2012, a TV show called The River started on ABC. This show was about paranormal events, action, and horror. It followed a group of people searching for a missing TV explorer. The search took them deep into the Amazon. Peli helped create this show with Michael R. Perry. Michael R. Perry also helped write Paranormal Activity 2.
