Oren Peli (born January 21, 1970) is a filmmaker from Israel. He is most famous for writing and directing the scary movie Paranormal Activity in 2007. He also helped produce many other films in the Paranormal Activity series and the first five movies in the Insidious series.

Early Life
Oren Peli was born in Ramat Gan, Israel. When he was 19 years old, he moved to the United States.
Career Highlights
Peli started his career as a computer software programmer. He helped create a graphics program called Photon Paint. He also worked on the networking code for the home video game versions of Mortal Kombat 3.
How Paranormal Activity Began
His first movie, Paranormal Activity, was inspired by his own experience. Peli had just moved into his first house alone. He heard strange creaks and knocks at night. This gave him the idea for a movie about a family using cameras to record unusual things happening in their home.
Other Film Projects
After Paranormal Activity became very successful, Peli worked with James Wan and Leigh Whannell. They created the movie Insidious. Peli also produced and wrote the 2012 horror film Chernobyl Diaries. This movie was based on his story The Diary of Lawson Oxford. It followed friends who get stuck in the abandoned city of Prypiat, Ukraine. They soon discover they are not alone.
Television Work
In 2012, a TV show called The River started on ABC. This show was about paranormal activity, action, and horror. It followed a group looking for a missing TV explorer in the Amazon. Peli helped create this show with Michael R. Perry. Perry also helped write Paranormal Activity 2.

Peli wrote and directed Area 51. This movie is about three friends who want to find out the secrets of the famous Area 51. Peli has also produced all the movies in the Paranormal Activity and Insidious movie series. He also produced The Lords of Salem.
