Orient is a small community in Pickaway County, Ohio, United States. It is known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special area defined for gathering population information. Orient used to be a village, but it is not one anymore. In 2020, about 246 people lived there.
Orient is home to two important facilities: the Pickaway Correctional Institution and the Correctional Reception Center.

History of Orient
Orient began as a stop along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. This railroad station was located in the northwest part of Scioto Township.
Why Orient is No Longer a Village
In January 2012, people living in Orient started talking about dissolving the village. This meant they wanted Orient to stop being an official village. They gathered enough signatures to have a vote. However, the first petition was rejected because of a problem with the signatures.
A new petition was created, and in May 2013, the people of Orient voted on the issue. Most residents, 38 to 30, voted to dissolve the village. This decision meant Orient was no longer an official village.

Orient is a small area. According to the United States Census Bureau, it covers about 0.12 square miles (0.31 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
