Orlando Fashion Square is a large indoor shopping mall in Orlando, Florida. It opened in 1973. The mall has 79 stores and covers over one million square feet.

Its main stores, called anchor stores, are Macy's, Floor & Decor, and Dillard's Clearance Center. Before the mall even opened, a Sears department store was already there since 1963. This Sears store closed in 2016. Another anchor store, JCPenney, closed in 2020. The mall also has a Premiere Cinemas movie theater, a food court, and Planet Fitness. UP Development, Inc. manages the mall.

Mall History

The first store on the mall's site was a large Sears department store. It opened in late 1963. The idea for the mall was first shared in 1971 by developer Leonard L. Farber. He also built other malls, like Pompano Square. The first plan was to connect the new mall to the existing Sears store. Another store, Burdines, was planned to be the second main anchor store.

Early Years and Changes

A separate movie theater was built near the mall in 1975. It stayed there until 1989. In 1988, a store called J. W. Robinson's changed its name to Maison Blanche. Two years later, Maison Blanche built a new store right behind the old one. The old store space then became part of the mall, connecting the new store.

In 1992, Maison Blanche became Gayfer's. Then, in 1998, Dillard's bought Gayfer's. JCPenney also built a new store at the mall in 1993. This new store replaced an older JCPenney store at Winter Park Mall.

New Features and Updates

The inside of the mall got a big update in 2002. In 2004, a new movie theater opened inside the mall. This theater is owned by Premiere Cinemas. The Burdines store, which was one of the original anchors, changed its name to Macy's in 2005.

Recent Changes and Redevelopment

In 2013, a company called PREIT sold the mall to UP Development, Inc. The new owners have plans to update the mall. A year later, a new bowling alley was added. The movie theater was also rebuilt at that time.

In 2014, the Dillard's store changed into a Dillard's Clearance Center. This meant it focused on selling discounted items. Because of this, the second floor of Dillard's was closed. The mall also lost some other popular stores around this time, like Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, and The Limited.

In 2015, the Sears store at Orlando Fashion Square became part of a new company called Seritage Growth Properties. On August 9, 2016, Sears announced that its store at the mall would close. The Sears building was torn down in April 2017. A new store, Floor & Decor, was built where Sears used to be. Other restaurants like Longhorn Steakhouse, Mission BBQ, and Olive Garden were also built nearby.

On June 4, 2020, JCPenney announced that it would close many of its stores across the country. The JCPenney store at Orlando Fashion Square closed on October 18, 2020.
