Oryukdo is a cool group of islands located about 600 meters (about 2,000 feet) southeast of the Uam Peninsula in Busan, South Korea. These islands are super famous and are even considered one of the main symbols of Busan!

Discovering Oryukdo: Busan's Island Gem

Oryukdo means "Five-Six Islands" in Korean. This unique name comes from how the islands look. Sometimes, depending on the tide, you might see five islands, and at other times, you might see six! It's like a little magic trick played by nature.

What are the Oryukdo Islands?

There are six islands in total, lined up from the land towards the sea. Let's meet them:

  • Shield Island (Bangpaeseom)
  • Pine Tree Island (Solseom)
  • Suri Island (Suriseom)
  • Awl Island (Songgotseom)
  • Oyster Island (Gulseom)
  • Lighthouse Island (Deungdaeseom)

In the past, Shield Island and Pine Tree Island were connected to another island called Haesik Island. Together, they used to be known as Usakdo Island. But in 2011, they were officially recognized as separate, uninhabited islands. This means no one lives on them!

Walking on Air: The Oryukdo Skywalk

One of the most exciting things to do at Oryukdo is visit the Skywalk! It's a glass bridge that extends out over the ocean, giving you an amazing view of the islands and the sparkling sea below. Walking on the transparent floor feels like you're floating in the air, high above the waves. It's a thrilling experience and a fantastic spot for taking pictures!
