The Story of Osage City

How Osage City Began

Osage City was officially planned and mapped out, or platted, in 1867. This means someone drew up plans for streets and lots, creating the layout for the community. The area got its name from the nearby Osage River, a significant river in Missouri.

Past Services and Important Places

A post office was opened in Osage City in 1856, helping people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years before it closed in 1962.

Another important spot in the area is the Gay Archeological Site. This site is a place where scientists study old human history by looking at things left behind by people who lived there long ago. In 2016, this site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
