Osamu Maeda (前田 治, Maeda Osamu, born September 5, 1965) is a former Japanese football player. He was a forward, which means he played in an attacking position to score goals. He played for the Yokohama Flügels club and also represented the Japan national team.
Playing for Clubs
Osamu Maeda was born in Fukuoka, Japan, on September 5, 1965. After finishing his studies at Tokai University, he started his professional football career in 1988. He joined a team called All Nippon Airways, which later changed its name to Yokohama Flügels.
In his very first season, the club did incredibly well, finishing second in the Japan Soccer League. Osamu Maeda's great performance even earned him a spot in the "Best Eleven," which means he was chosen as one of the top 11 players in the league that year.
He continued to be a key player for the team. In 1993, his club, Yokohama Flügels, won the important Emperor's Cup, a major football tournament in Japan. They also found success in Asia, winning the 1994–95 Asian Cup Winners' Cup and the 1995 Asian Super Cup. Osamu Maeda played for Yokohama Flügels until he retired from professional football in 1996. During his time with the club, he played 164 games and scored 45 goals.
Playing for Japan
Osamu Maeda also had the honor of playing for the Japan national football team. He made his first appearance for the national team on January 27, 1988, in a match against the United Arab Emirates.
He quickly became a regular player for Japan. He also played in the qualification matches for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Between 1988 and 1989, Osamu Maeda played a total of 14 games for the Japan national team and scored 6 goals.
