Oscar Castro-Neves was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was one of three brothers born at the same time. When he was young, he started a band with his brothers.
By the age of 16, Oscar had a big hit song in Brazil called Chora Tua Tristeza. This showed how talented he was from a young age.
In 1962, he took part in an important bossa nova concert. This concert was held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. After that, he toured with famous musicians like Stan Getz and Sérgio Mendes.
