Oscar Miguel Cacho Malbernat Candela (born February 2, 1944 – died August 9, 2019) was a famous Argentine football player. He was best known as the captain of Estudiantes de La Plata. During his time as captain from 1967 to 1972, his team achieved amazing success. They won a local championship in 1967, three Copa Libertadores titles in a row (1968, 1969, 1970), and one Intercontinental Cup in 1968.

In the 1968 Intercontinental Cup, he famously played against Manchester United's star player, George Best. Oscar Malbernat also played for Boca Juniors in 1972 and Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1973 before he retired from playing.

After his playing career, Malbernat became a football manager. He coached many different clubs across South America. This included his old club Estudiantes on two occasions. He also managed teams in countries like Paraguay, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. Later in his career, Malbernat worked with the youth teams at Estudiantes, helping young players develop their skills.

Oscar Malbernat was a very successful player, especially with Estudiantes de La Plata. He was a key part of one of the most famous teams in Argentine football history.

Winning the Argentine Championship

In 1967, Oscar Malbernat led Estudiantes de La Plata to win the Primera División Metropolitano. This was a major championship in Argentina. It showed how strong the team was becoming.

Conquering South America: Copa Libertadores

Estudiantes de La Plata, with Malbernat as captain, won the Copa Libertadores three times in a row. This is South America's biggest club football competition.
