Otano, also called Otao in the Basque language, is a small village in Spain. It is part of the Noáin area in the Navarre province. In 2020, only 7 people lived there.

Where is Otano?
Otano is located about 20 kilometers (12 miles) south-east of Pamplona. It sits in the valley of the Elorz River. The village is also on the slopes of a mountain called Alaiz.
Otano's Past
Otano has a long and interesting history. In 1802, it had a much larger population of 64 people.
The Camino de Santiago
The village is special because it is on the famous Camino de Santiago. This is a very old pilgrimage route that many people walk. The main street of Otano is actually part of this historic path.
Knights Hospitaller
During the Middle Ages, Otano belonged to a group called the Knights Hospitaller. They were a military and religious order. Even though the village is now very small, it still has a church. This church was built in the 1500s. It is dedicated to either San Salvador or the Ascension.
Old Bridge Elements
You can also see parts of a very old Romanesque bridge in Otano. These old parts are now built into the bridge that crosses the Elorz River today.
Famous Birth
A famous person named Martín Javier Mina y Larrea was born in Otano in 1789. He was an important figure in Spanish history.
