The Otto and Hilda Gretzinger House is a historic house located in De Pere, Wisconsin. It's a great example of a Craftsman-style bungalow. This means it's a cozy, often one-story home with a wide roof that hangs over the sides (called "eaves"). It also has a big front porch, which is a perfect spot to relax!

What makes this house special is its unique porch. The ends of its front terrace are curved, which is a bit unusual for this style. Inside, the house still looks much like it did when it was built. It has beautiful "built-ins," which are things like shelves or cabinets that are part of the house's structure. The materials used to build it were also very high quality.

Who Lived Here?

The house was first owned by Otto Gretzinger and his wife, Hilda. Otto was the manager of a local lumber company called the Central Lumber Company. Hilda was a schoolteacher.

Otto and Hilda got married in 1915. Soon after, they bought the land where they wanted to build their new home. The house was finished the very next year, in 1916.

A Special Historic Home

In 2011, the Otto and Hilda Gretzinger House was recognized as a very important building. It was added to both the State Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. Being on these lists means the house is protected and recognized for its historical importance.

This house is also right next to the North Broadway Street Historic District. This area is a collection of historic homes that were added to the National Register in 1983. It means the Gretzinger House is part of a neighborhood full of interesting old buildings!
