Ouaddaï is a region found in the country of Chad. It is located in the eastern part of Chad. The main city and capital of this region is Abéché.

History of Ouaddaï
The Ouaddaï region was once the center of a powerful kingdom called the Ouaddai Empire. This empire lasted for a long time, from the early 1500s until 1911.
In 1911, the Ouaddai Empire was defeated by France during a conflict known as the Ouaddai War. After this, the area became part of the French colonial rule.
How Ouaddaï is Divided
Since 2008, the Ouaddaï region has been split into three main parts. These parts are called departments. Each department has its own capital city.
Departments and Their Capitals
Here are the departments in Ouaddaï and their main towns:
- Abdi Department: Its capital is Abdi (ville). It also includes the areas of Abkar Djombo and Biyeré.
- Assoungha Department: Its capital is Adré. Other important places here are Hadjer Hadid, Mabrone, Borota, Molou, and Tourane.
- Ouara Department: Its capital is Abéché, which is also the capital of the whole Ouaddaï region. This department also includes Abougoudam, Chokoyan, Bourtaïl, Amleyouna, Gurry, and Marfa.
