Our Hero was a fun television show that aired on the CBC in Canada from 2000 to 2002. It had 26 episodes spread across two seasons. The show was also shown in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The main character was a teenager named Kale Stiglic, played by Cara Pifko. Kale loved to create a special kind of homemade magazine called a "zine." Her zine was all about her life in the suburbs of Toronto. She shared stories about her friends Ross (Justin Peroff), Mary-Elizabeth (Jeanie Calleja), and Dalal (Vik Sahay). Each episode of the show was named after an "issue" of Kale's zine. The show also had cool animated parts narrated by Kale, which looked like the drawings from her zine.

Behind the Scenes
Our Hero was created by two talented people, John May and Suzanne Bolch. They also wrote almost all of the episodes. John May even directed many episodes himself. John May, Suzanne Bolch, and Karen Lee Hall formed a company called Heroic Film Company. This company focuses on making TV shows especially for young people.
Where It Was Filmed
The show was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The main filming location was the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, which is located near Front St and John St. To save time and money, the crew often filmed two episodes at the same time!
For the special zine parts of the show, some photos and Super 8 videos were taken with a small team right on the streets of Toronto. This helped make the zine sequences look very real and unique.
