In January 2016, DHX Media decided to build a big studio in Vancouver, British Columbia. This new studio would make both animated and live-action shows. Later that year, teams from two other studios, Studio B Productions (bought in 2007) and Nerd Corps Entertainment (bought in 2014), moved into this new building.

The studio has two main production teams. One team, from Nerd Corps, makes shows using computer-generated imagery (CGI). The other team, from Studio B, creates 2D animated shows, including those made with Adobe Animate.

By 2019, the Vancouver studio was the only one left in this part of the company. Other studios had either been sold or closed down.

Parent DHX Media (2006–2011)

DHX Media Toronto started on February 27, 1997, as Decode Entertainment, Inc.. It was founded by Steven DeNure, Neil Court, and John Delmage in Toronto, Canada. This company made many TV shows and supplied programming for children and teens around the world. Decode Entertainment focused on traditional animation, computer animation, and live-action shows.

On May 16, 2006, Decode Entertainment joined with Halifax Film to form DHX Media. Decode Entertainment became a part of DHX Media. By 2010, all studios under DHX Media, including Decode Entertainment, were brought together under the DHX Media name.

By 2011, DHX Media stopped making new content at the old Decode offices. Another company, Epitome Pictures, which DHX bought in 2014, later used the name DHX Studios Toronto in 2016. However, this new DHX Studios Toronto was not related to the original animation studio.

DHX Studios Toronto (Epitome Pictures)

In 2016, Epitome Pictures was renamed DHX Studios Toronto. This company made live-action shows. In 2019, DHX sold the building, and the Toronto studio stopped its operations.
