How the Show Was Made
In December 2018, a company called DHX Media announced something exciting. They would make new Peanuts shows for Apple's new streaming service. Snoopy in Space was the first one.
Months before, Peanuts Worldwide teamed up with NASA. Their goal was to encourage students to learn about STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. They planned to do this through new content like this show.
Snoopy's History with Space
The character Snoopy has a long history with NASA. This goes back to the Apollo 10 mission. NASA even has an award called the Silver Snoopy Award. It's given to people who help make space flights safer.
Before the show came out, Apple TV streamed a documentary. It was called Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10. It featured Ron Howard and Jeff Goldblum. This short film was released in May 2019. The Snoopy in Space series uses real footage from NASA's archives. This makes the space adventures feel very real!
Release and Company Changes
Snoopy in Space launched on November 1, 2019. It came out when Apple TV+ first started. The show's music was also released on Apple Music that same day.
This show was the last one made under the name DHX Media. The studio later changed its name to WildBrain. This was to match their popular online network, which was renamed WildBrain Spark. In October 2020, it was announced that a second season of the show is being made!
Promoting Snoopy's Space Adventures
A short preview for the series came out on July 17, 2019. The full trailer was released on September 27, 2019.
As part of the NASA partnership, McDonald's Happy Meals had space-themed Snoopy toys and books. This happened in the summer of 2019. An astronaut Snoopy balloon also flew in the 2019 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Space Foundation started hosting STEM lessons. These lessons happened before the show was released. Apple Store locations also held Snoopy in Space-themed events. These events celebrated the show's debut.
