Nicole Byer (born August 29, 1986) is a super funny American comedian, actress, and TV host. She's famous for hosting the Netflix show Nailed It!. On this show, amateur bakers try to copy fancy desserts, often with hilarious results! Nicole has even been nominated for four Emmy Awards for her hosting skills.
Nicole first became well-known for her work on the show Girl Code in 2013. Later, she starred in her own comedy series, Loosely Exactly Nicole. This show was based on her real-life experiences. She has also appeared in many other popular TV shows like The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Simpsons. In movies, you might have seen her in Other People or Bad Hair. Since 2021, Nicole has been co-hosting Wipeout with John Cena.

Nicole's Early Life
Nicole Byer was born in New Jersey. In the early 2000s, she moved to New York City. There, she worked as a waitress. She shared that this job actually helped her get into comedy. People told her she was funny, even if she wasn't the best waitress!
Sadly, Nicole's parents passed away when she was young. Her mom died when Nicole was a teenager, and her dad when she was 21. Nicole has said that comedy helped her deal with these difficult times. She felt lucky to have found comedy before they passed away, as it gave her a way to cope.
She started taking improv and sketch comedy classes in 2008 at the Upright Citizens Brigade. This was the same month her father died. She continued with improv for many years before starting her stand-up comedy career in 2013. Nicole also graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Her Amazing Career
Nicole travels all over the United States performing stand-up comedy. She also regularly performs improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles.
TV Shows and Hosting
Nicole started appearing on MTV's Girl Code in 2013. In 2014, she hosted the first season of Are You the One? The Aftermatch Live. This was a show that discussed what happened after each episode of Are You the One?.
In 2016, she had many TV roles. She was on Girl Code, a hidden camera prank show called Ladylike, and a sketch comedy show called Party Over Here. People loved her on Girl Code, with one writer calling her a "beloved talking head" and another saying she was "one of the most dependably funny commentators." Early in her career, Nicole learned to do her own makeup and hair. This was because some on-set artists weren't ready to work with her skin tone and hair type.
Nicole has also been a guest star on shows like BoJack Horseman, Transparent, and Bob's Burgers. She was even a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars.
Hosting Nailed It!
Since March 2018, Nicole Byer has been the host of the Netflix show Nailed It!. She hosts alongside the head judge, chocolatier Jacques Torres. In each episode, three home bakers who aren't very good at baking try to copy really difficult desserts. They are competing for a $10,000 prize! Nicole has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Host four times (in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023). She is the first Black woman to be nominated in this category.
Even though her comedy can sometimes be for grown-ups, her comments on Nailed It! are edited to be fun and family-friendly. The show is known for its positive and funny vibe. It's amazing to know that an entire season of the show is filmed in just 13 days!
Loosely Exactly Nicole
In 2016, MTV launched Loosely Exactly Nicole. This was a comedy show written by and starring Nicole Byer. It was based on her own life. The show explored her experiences as a Black actress trying to make it in Hollywood. Loosely Exactly Nicole first aired on September 5, 2016. After one season, it was picked up by Facebook Watch for a second season.

Why Won't You Date Me?
In December 2017, Nicole started her weekly podcast Why Won't You Date Me?. Each episode features a guest, usually another comedian. Nicole talks openly about her dating life and how she feels about being single. The guest also gives her advice on her Tinder profile. At the end of each show, Nicole asks the guest if they would date her. Her close friend Sasheer Zamata has been a guest, along with others like Emily Heller. Critics have called the show "bold" and "refreshing." In 2021, the show moved to Conan O'Brien's Team coco podcast network.
Best Friends!
In 2019, Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata started a podcast called Best Friends. This weekly podcast is all about friendship. They talk about what friendship means to them. They've had famous guests like actresses June Diane Raphael and Casey Wilson. That same year, Nicole also became a co-host on Drag Her, a podcast about RuPaul's Drag Race. She also co-hosts 90 Day Bae, a podcast about 90 Day Fiance, with Marcy Jarreau.
Newcomers
In 2020, Nicole launched another weekly podcast called Newcomers. On this podcast, Nicole and her friend Lauren Lapkus watch movies for the very first time. They share their thoughts as "newcomers" to the films. Each episode features a guest who knows a lot about the movie series. They help explain things to Nicole and Lauren.
The first season of Newcomers covered the Star Wars movies. The second season explored The Lord of the Rings. The third season looked at movies by Tyler Perry. The fourth season dives into the Fast & Furious series with a new co-host, Jon Gabrus. The fifth season covered movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The sixth season has Nicole and Lauren watching different Batman films.
