Nicole Byer (born August 29, 1986) is a super funny American comedian, actress, and TV host. She's famous for hosting the Netflix show Nailed It!. On this show, amateur bakers try to copy fancy desserts, often with hilarious results! Nicole has even been nominated for four Emmy Awards for her hosting skills.

Nicole first became well-known for her work on the show Girl Code in 2013. Later, she starred in her own comedy series, Loosely Exactly Nicole. This show was based on her real-life experiences. She has also appeared in many other popular TV shows like The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Simpsons. In movies, you might have seen her in Other People or Bad Hair. Since 2021, Nicole has been co-hosting Wipeout with John Cena.

Besides TV and movies, Nicole hosts several podcasts. These include Why Won't You Date Me?, Best Friends (with Sasheer Zamata), and Newcomers. In 2021, her comedy special, Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo), came out on Netflix. It even earned her an Emmy nomination for her writing!

Nicole's Early Life

Nicole Byer was born in New Jersey. In the early 2000s, she moved to New York City. There, she worked as a waitress. She shared that this job actually helped her get into comedy. People told her she was funny, even if she wasn't the best waitress!

Sadly, Nicole's parents passed away when she was young. Her mom died when Nicole was a teenager, and her dad when she was 21. Nicole has said that comedy helped her deal with these difficult times. She felt lucky to have found comedy before they passed away, as it gave her a way to cope.

She started taking improv and sketch comedy classes in 2008 at the Upright Citizens Brigade. This was the same month her father died. She continued with improv for many years before starting her stand-up comedy career in 2013. Nicole also graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

Her Amazing Career

Nicole travels all over the United States performing stand-up comedy. She also regularly performs improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles.

TV Shows and Hosting

Nicole started appearing on MTV's Girl Code in 2013. In 2014, she hosted the first season of Are You the One? The Aftermatch Live. This was a show that discussed what happened after each episode of Are You the One?.

People loved her on Girl Code, with one writer calling her a "beloved talking head" and another saying she was "one of the most dependably funny commentators." Early in her career, Nicole learned to do her own makeup and hair. This was because some on-set artists weren't ready to work with her skin tone and hair type.

Nicole has also been a guest star on shows like BoJack Horseman, Transparent, and Bob's Burgers. She was even a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars.

Hosting Nailed It!

Nicole has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Host four times (in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023). She is the first Black woman to be nominated in this category.

Even though her comedy can sometimes be for grown-ups, her comments on Nailed It! are edited to be fun and family-friendly. The show is known for its positive and funny vibe. It's amazing to know that an entire season of the show is filmed in just 13 days!
