School History and Changes
Early Years and New Buildings
Outwood Academy Bydales was originally known as Marske County Modern School. It was built in 1965. Later, its name changed to Bydales School until January 31, 2015.
The old school buildings were taken down after a new building was finished. This new building opened to students on November 2, 2006. It was officially opened by local MP Vera Baird on November 7, 2007. On the same day, the school's fair trade shop started selling items.
Joining the Academy Trust
In 2013, the school was inspected by Ofsted, which checks how good schools are. The inspection found that the school needed to make big improvements. Because of this, Bydales School became a 'sponsored Academy' on February 1, 2015. This meant it joined the Outwood Grange Family of Schools.
When it became an academy, the school was no longer considered to need special improvements. In October 2015, it was announced that new academies would not be inspected again until they had been open for three years.
Improvements and Achievements
After becoming Outwood Academy Bydales, the school saw great improvements. In its first year as an academy, 73% of students achieved good grades (5+A*-C) in their GCSEs, including English and maths. This was a big jump from before.
Because of these results, the school was named one of the top three schools in Teesside for student achievement in 2015. It was also ranked first for the progress students made. In January 2018, Ofsted inspected the school again and rated it as 'Outstanding', which is the highest possible rating.
Uniform Changes
When the school joined the Outwood Grange Family of Schools, the uniform also changed. Students first received new ties. Then, in January 2015, the full new uniform was introduced, which included blazers.
School Facilities
Outwood Academy Bydales has some cool features that help the environment. It has a small wind turbine to make electricity. It also has solar panels that use sunlight to create energy. Plus, there's a hydrogen fuel cell, which is another way to produce clean energy.
