School History and Changes
Outwood Academy Bydales has changed its name a few times. It was known as Bydales School until January 31, 2015. Before that, it was called Marske County Modern School, which was built in 1965.
New School Building
The original school buildings were taken down after a new building was finished. This new building opened to students on November 2, 2006. It was officially opened by the local MP on November 7, 2007. On the same day, the school's fair trade shop started selling items.
Becoming an Academy
In April 2008, the school joined a special program for schools. In 2008, 61% of students achieved good GCSE grades, including English and maths. The school also won an award in 2009 for being a sustainable school in its region.
In December 2013, the school was inspected and placed into special measures. This means it needed extra help to improve. This was a change from its previous "Outstanding" rating in February 2011. The headteacher at the time resigned in December 2013.
In June 2014, it was announced that the school would become a 'sponsored Academy'. This meant it would join the Outwood Grange Family of Schools to help it improve. The school was removed from special measures when it became an academy in February 2015.
Improvements and Success
In its first year as Outwood Academy Bydales, the number of students getting good GCSE grades (5+ A*-C, including English and maths) went up to 73%. This was 12% higher than the school's best results before.
Because of these great results, the school was named one of the top three schools in Teesside for achievement in 2015. It was also first for how much progress students made, placing it in the top 3% of similar schools. In January 2018, Ofsted rated the school as "Outstanding."
Uniform Changes
When Bydales School joined the Outwood Grange Family of Schools, it was renamed Outwood Academy Bydales on February 1, 2015. The school uniform also changed to the new Outwood style. Students first received new ties, and then the full uniform, including blazers, in January 2015.

Outwood Academy Bydales has some interesting features that help with energy. These include a small wind turbine, solar panels, and a hydrogen fuel cell. These help the school be more environmentally friendly.
