Ovidiu Stîngă, born on December 5, 1972, is a famous Romanian football player and coach. He played as a midfielder for many teams. Today, he coaches the Under-19 team for Al Sadd SC in Qatar.

Playing for Clubs

Ovidiu Stîngă started his football journey in his hometown, Craiova, Romania. He began playing at Viitorul Craiova. In 1990, when he was just 17, he played his first big game for Universitatea Craiova.

Early Career in Romania

After his first game, he was loaned to Jiul IELIF Craiova for a short time. He came back to Universitatea Craiova in 1991. In the 1992–93 season, he was one of the best players on his team. They finished third in the league and won the Cupa României, which is Romania's main football cup.

Playing in Spain

In the summer of 1995, Ovidiu moved to Spain to play for UD Salamanca. He played his first game in Spain's top league, La Liga, on September 3. His team won that game 3–1. He scored 11 goals for Salamanca, making him the second-highest scorer on the team. However, his team finished last and moved down to a lower league.

Time with PSV Eindhoven

In 1996, Stîngă joined the Dutch team PSV Eindhoven. In his first year, he played only a few matches. But in the 1997–98 season, he became a very important player for PSV. They finished second in the Dutch Championship that year.

In 1998, he got a serious injury. This meant he couldn't play for almost a year. But he came back strong! In 2000 and 2001, Ovidiu helped PSV win two Dutch Championship titles in a row. He also won the Dutch Super Cup with them.

Return to Romania and Retirement

In 2001, Ovidiu came back to Romania. He joined Dinamo București and helped them win the league title. After that, he played for Universitatea Craiova again for two seasons. This was his return after seven years away.

In 2004, he was loaned to a Dutch team called Helmond Sport. In 2006, he became a player and a coach for Universitatea Craiova. He helped his team get promoted to the first league in the 2006–07 season. After this, he ended his playing career.

Playing for Romania

Ovidiu Stîngă also played for the Romanian national team. He played his first game for Romania on January 31, 1993. This was a friendly match against Ecuador.

World Cup and European Championship

In 1994, he was part of Romania's team for the World Cup in the United States. However, he did not play in any games during that tournament.

In 1996, he was chosen by coach Anghel Iordănescu to play in the European Championship in England. He played one match there against Spain. He also represented his country at the World Cup 1998 in France.
