Early Life and Moving West

Owen Wade was born on October 28, 1831. He grew up on a farm in Morgan County, Ohio. In 1852, when he was about 21 years old, he moved west. He settled in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

Political Career and Public Service

Wade began his political career in Oregon. In 1862, he was elected to the Oregon Legislature. He served there until 1865.

In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln chose him for an important job. Wade became the Registrar of the General Land Office in Oregon City, Oregon. This office helped manage public land.

He also became involved in local politics. In 1872, he was the chairman of the Republican Central Committee for Clackamas County. He kept his job as registrar until he resigned in January 1878.

Moving to California

In 1879, Owen Wade moved to California. He settled in a town called St. Helena, California. There, he started working at the Bank of St. Helena in 1883. He was a cashier, handling money and accounts.

Serving in California
