About Oz Scott: A Director's Journey
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Oz Scott was born in Hampton, Virginia. He went to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and earned a special degree called an MFA. After college, he started his career in Washington D.C. at a place called the Arena Stage.
At the Arena Stage, he helped run a traveling theater group called The Living Stage. This group performed plays where actors made things up on the spot, which is called improvisational theater.
Directing on Stage and Screen
Oz Scott then started directing plays both on and off Broadway. ..... He even directed a TV version of this play in 1982.
In 1981, he directed his first full-length movie, Bustin' Loose. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Oz Scott directed many popular TV shows and movies. Some of these include Gimme a Break!, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Crash Course, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Hit TV Shows and Movies
In 2002, Oz Scott directed a TV movie for VH1 called Play'd – A Hip Hop Story. This movie, starring Rashaan Nall and Toni Braxton, became VH1's most-watched show at the time.
The next year, in 2003, he directed The Cheetah Girls for the Disney Channel. This movie was a big hit with young audiences.
Since then, Oz Scott has directed episodes for many well-known TV series. These include Strong Medicine, Everybody Hates Chris, Boston Legal, The Unit, Medium, CSI: NY, and NCIS. Besides directing, he also wrote episodes for The Jeffersons. He was also a supervising producer for two episodes of The District.
In 2008, Oz Scott became an important leader at the Negro Ensemble Company. He was named their associate artistic director and joined their board of directors.
Personal Life
Oz Scott lives in Sherman Oaks, California. He lives there with his wife, and they have three grown children.
