Baron Péter Révay de Szklabina et Blathnicza was an important Hungarian nobleman who lived a long time ago, from 1568 to 1622. He was many things: a poet, a soldier, a government official, and a historian. One of his most important jobs was being the Royal Crown Guard for the Holy Crown of Hungary, which is a very special symbol of Hungary. He was also the grandson of Ferenc Révay.
Péter Révay's Life Story
Péter Révay was born in a place called Szklabina. His family, the Révays, was very old and important in the Turóc region. He was the third child of Mihály Révay and Anna Bakics.
He went to school in several cities, including Bártfa, Jihlava, and probably Vienna. Between 1589 and 1591, he studied in Strasbourg, where he earned a Master of Philosophy degree.
In 1598, Péter Révay became the leader of the Turóc region, a job called főispán. He took on more important government roles over the years. In 1608, he became the Royal Crown Guard, protecting the Holy Crown of Hungary. Later, he held other high positions in the royal court.
Péter Révay was very smart and well-read. He knew a lot about philosophy and history, and he was good at public speaking. He also knew several languages and had a large library. Because of his knowledge, he became a respected person in politics and culture.
He also fought in wars against the Ottoman empire in places like Esztergom and Visegrád. Péter Révay was a strong supporter of Lutheranism, a type of Christianity, and helped spread religious writings. He passed away in Trencsén but was buried in Turócszentmárton.
Péter Révay's Written Works
Péter Révay's poems and history books were very important. They later influenced historical writings and patriotic works in Slovakia. He started writing while he was studying in Strasbourg. His first published work, an article called De parricidio (which means "Grand Treason"), came out in 1592.
He was one of the first historians in Hungary to say that the Slavs were a very old group of people. His writings showed that Hungary was a country made up of many different nations. He even wrote letters to officials in his region using a polite form of the Slovak language.

- 1659 – De monarchia et sacra corona regni hungariae centuriae septem: A much bigger book about the history of the Kingdom of Hungary and the Holy Crown of Hungary. This was published after he died.
