PTAF stands for Pretty and Taking All Fades. It is an American hip hop group from Los Angeles. The group has three members: Kandi, K'Duce, and Alizé. They are known for their popular song "Boss ...". This song became very famous and helped them get a record deal with Capitol Records in January 2014.
In 2015, PTAF's time with Capitol Records ended. In 2017, the group shared on social media that they were taking a break to work on their own music. However, they remained good friends. In October 2020, the group reunited to be featured on a song with Ayce Nyce. This song has been streamed over 1 million times around the world.
How PTAF Started
PTAF formed when the members were students at Crenshaw Charter school. Their song "Boss ..." was first released on May 9, 2012. A music video for the song came out at the same time. This video was filmed at the SEA Crenshaw school.
On March 29, 2014, PTAF joined Vevo. They then released a new and updated music video for "Boss ...". The group originally thought about using different words in the song. But they decided to use "boss" instead to promote a message of female strength and confidence. The song became very popular online. Many people used it in short, funny videos on the website Vine.
Working with Nicki Minaj and Film Music
PTAF signed with Capitol Records around the same time that Nicki Minaj released her own version of "Boss ...". Some news reports said that Nicki Minaj's remix helped Capitol Records notice the group. Other reports said that Capitol Records was already interested in PTAF before the remix came out.
The song "Boss ..." was also used in the movie The Bronze. After this, the actress Melissa Rauch contacted the group. She wanted them to create a new song for the film. ..... On May 14, 2021, Nicki Minaj officially released her "Beam Me Up Scotty" mixtape to streaming services. This mixtape included her "Boss ..." remix. The remix reached number 16 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Chart on May 29, 2021.
