Pablo Lago's Playing Career
Pablo Lago was born in Vegadeo, a town in Asturias, Spain. He started playing football as an amateur player. In 1997, he scored 15 goals for CD Lugo, which was his best scoring season. After this, he joined Atlético Madrid B, a team in the Segunda División.
First Professional Matches
Pablo made his first professional appearance on August 31, 1997. He started in a match against UD Las Palmas that ended in a 1–1 tie. His first goal in the second division came on February 15, 1998. He scored the second goal in a 3–0 win against Elche CF.
Moving to La Liga Teams
In 1998, Pablo joined RCD Mallorca, a team in La Liga, Spain's top league. However, he was immediately loaned to Rayo Vallecano, a team in the second division. During his time there, Rayo Vallecano earned promotion to La Liga at the end of the 1998–99 season. Pablo was a regular player for them.
Pablo then spent two seasons on loan at Las Palmas. After these loans, he signed a permanent contract with Las Palmas in 2001. His first game in La Liga was on September 10, 2000, when he started in a 0–3 loss to Deportivo Alavés. Seven days later, he scored his first goal in the top league during a 2–2 tie against Real Oviedo.
Later Playing Years
In July 2002, after Las Palmas was relegated from La Liga, Pablo signed a four-year contract with Racing de Santander. He didn't play as much during his two years there. After that, he joined Sporting de Gijón, another second-division team, where he was mostly a substitute player.
After playing one season with CD Numancia in the second tier, Pablo moved to lower leagues in 2007. He joined Marino de Luanco and played there for two years. He retired from playing football in 2009 at the age of 34.
