The Pacific Building is a tall, 22-story office building located in the busy downtown area of Seattle, Washington. You can find it at 720 Third Avenue. This building was completed in 1971 and has been home to many different businesses over the years.

A Look Back in Time

The idea for the Pacific Building came from a company called Pacific Building Corporation. This company was led by a well-known builder and engineer named Richard H. Hadley. His father, Homer Hadley, was famous for helping to build floating bridges in the area.

Getting Ready to Build

Before construction could begin, engineers needed to check the ground. In 1968, a company called Dames & Moore studied the soil. They drilled holes and did tests to make sure the ground was strong enough to support a tall building. This helped them figure out the best way to build the foundation.

Changes Over the Years

By 1995, the Pacific Building had many empty offices. This happened partly because a bank, Continental Savings Bank (now HomeStreet Bank), moved out in 1992. This bank had been a major tenant since the building opened in 1971.

However, things improved! By 2001, about 90% of the office space was being used again. At this time, a company called Martin Smith Inc. was managing the building.

New Owners and Updates

In 2007, a company called Meriwether Partners bought the building. They paid about $34 million for it. At that time, most of the building was rented out.

Meriwether Partners decided to give the building a big makeover. They spent millions of dollars to update both the inside and outside. They made the main lobby look new and improved the elevators. They also upgraded the hallways and made the parking garage better. A new fire sprinkler system was installed, and a new cover was added along Third Avenue.

In 2014, the building was sold again, this time to a company called Brickman for over $50 million. The building has been bought and sold a few times over the years, showing how its value has changed.
