Patrick Reilly, born on October 18, 1939, is a famous Irish folk singer and guitarist. He was born in Rathcoole, County Dublin, Ireland. Paddy Reilly is known as one of Ireland's best ballad singers. He is especially famous for his versions of songs like "The Fields of Athenry", "Rose of Allendale", and "The Town I Loved So Well".
In 1983, Paddy Reilly released his version of "The Fields of Athenry" as a single. This song became very popular and stayed on the Irish music charts for 72 weeks! In 1988, he had a number one hit in Ireland with the song "Flight of Earls", which was written by Liam Reilly (who is not related to Paddy).
Paddy Reilly's Music Journey
For many years, Paddy Reilly performed by himself as a solo artist. In 1996, he joined a very famous Irish folk group called The Dubliners. He took the place of Ronnie Drew, who had been a member for a long time.
Paddy Reilly stayed with The Dubliners for nine years. In 2005, he decided to leave the group. He moved to New York City in the United States, where he owned several pubs. After living in New York for some years, he moved back home to Ireland. After he left, Patsy Watchorn joined The Dubliners.
