Pagetown is a small, unincorporated community in Morrow County, Ohio. An "unincorporated community" means it's a settlement without its own local government, but it's still part of the larger county.

History of Pagetown

How Pagetown Began

Pagetown was first planned in 1837 by a man named Marcus Page. He had moved to Ohio with his family in 1817 from New York. Marcus later sold the land to his brother, William Page, in 1819.

Life in Early Pagetown

A post office was opened in Pagetown in 1866. It was named after the Page family, who were important in the community. The post office stayed open until 1903.

Pagetown was never a very large town. It was at its busiest between 1830 and 1900. During this time, it had several important businesses. These included a small hotel, a tannery (where animal hides were made into leather), and a mill for processing wool. There was also an iron foundry, a blacksmith shop, a general store, a tavern, and a school. The only church in Pagetown, a Methodist church, was built in 1866.

Notable People from Pagetown

Two important people came from Pagetown:

  • Daniel Leonard Page (born in 1842) was a commander in the Union army during the American Civil War. He later helped to found the city of Joplin, Missouri.
  • Myrtle Page Fillmore (born in 1845) was a co-founder of the Unity School of Christianity.
