Palace, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Palace is a small place, also known as an unincorporated community, located in southern Pulaski County, Missouri. An unincorporated community is a group of homes and people living together, but it doesn't have its own official town government like a city does.

This community is found along Missouri Route AW. It's just southeast of the Fort Leonard Wood military base. Another community called Evening Shade is about three miles south of Palace, located in Texas County.

A Special Schoolhouse

The name "Palace" has an interesting story! In 1909, a post office was opened here, serving the local residents. A post office is where you send and receive mail.

The people who lived in this area thought their schoolhouse was very special. It was such a nice building that they called it a "palace." That's how the community got its unique name. The post office stayed open until 1957. The old Palace School is no longer in use today.
