Discovering the Palace of Bermejillo

The Palace of Bermejillo is located at number 31 on the Paseo de Eduardo Dato [es] street. You can find it in the Almagro neighborhood of Madrid. It stands out with its unique architectural style.

A Look at Its History

Building the palace started in 1913 and finished in 1916. The first person asked to design it was Francisco Reynals Toledo. Later, Frank Rank took over the project.

The design was inspired by the Spanish pavilion at the 1900 International Exposition in Paris. It also looked a lot like the 16th-century Palace of Caicedo in Granada. Eladio Laredo and Benito Guitart were in charge of the building work.

What is the Defender of the People?

Since 1983, the Palace of Bermejillo has been the main office for the Defender of the People. This important role is also called the Spanish Ombudsman.

The Defender of the People is an independent organization. Its job is to protect the rights of citizens. They make sure that public administrations act fairly. If people feel their rights have not been respected, they can ask the Defender of the People for help.
