A Home for Leaders
The Spanish government bought this palace in 1914. They bought it from the family of the Marquess of Villamejor. The idea was for the palace to be the official home of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is the main leader of the government in Spain.
The Palace of Villamejor served as the Prime Minister's residence for many years. This continued until 1976. At that time, the Prime Minister, Adolfo Suárez, moved the official residence. He moved it to another palace called the Palace of Moncloa.
