The Palacio Peñarol Contador Gastón Guelfi, often called Palacio Peñarol, is a cool indoor sports arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. It's mostly used for exciting basketball games and can hold up to 4,700 fans! It's also home to the Club Atlético Peñarol basketball team and the Uruguay national basketball team.
This arena also has a museum for the club and offices for Club Atlético Peñarol.
A Look Back: History of Palacio Peñarol
The Palacio Peñarol first opened its doors in 1955. It has been a busy place for many years. In 1994, the famous rock band The Ramones even performed there!
The arena got some updates in 2010 and 2011 to make it even better. In 2017, it was one of the special places that hosted games for the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup. This is a big basketball championship for teams from North and South America.
