Pallanganmiddang (also called Balangamida) was an Aboriginal language from the Upper Murray region. This area is in the north-east part of Victoria (Australia) in Australia. Sadly, this language is now extinct, meaning no one speaks it anymore. It likely disappeared around the year 1800.

What Was Pallanganmiddang?
Pallanganmiddang was a unique language. It was not very similar to other languages spoken nearby. Some people think that a language called Minjambuta might have been a different way of speaking Pallanganmiddang, like a dialect.
How Was It Related to Other Languages?
Experts have looked at how Pallanganmiddang might be connected to other languages. They think it might have had some small similarities to Yorta Yorta, Dhudhuroa, and a few dialects of Wiradjuri. These are all other Aboriginal languages from Australia.
How Did Pallanganmiddang Sound?
Every language has its own special sounds. Pallanganmiddang had a set of sounds that made it unique. It had different types of consonant sounds, like those made with your lips (like 'p' or 'b'), or with your tongue touching the roof of your mouth (like 't' or 'd'). It also had nasal sounds (like 'm' or 'n') and sounds like 'l' and 'r'.
Vowel Sounds
Like many languages, Pallanganmiddang also had vowel sounds. These were likely similar to the 'a' sound in "father," the 'i' sound in "machine," and the 'u' sound in "flute."
Why Did Pallanganmiddang Disappear?
When a language becomes extinct, it means that all the people who spoke it have passed away, and no new speakers learned it. This often happens because of big changes in society, like when new groups of people arrive and their languages become more common. The loss of Pallanganmiddang is a sad reminder of the many Aboriginal languages that have been lost over time.
