Palmitas is a village located in the western part of Uruguay. It is found in the Soriano Department. This small community is an important part of the region.

Where is Palmitas?
Palmitas is located in western Uruguay. It is about 1 kilometer (less than a mile) east of where two main roads meet. These roads are Route 2 and Route 105.
The village is also about 36 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of Mercedes. Mercedes is the main city and capital of the Soriano Department. A railroad track connecting Montevideo to Mercedes also runs through Palmitas.
A Look at Palmitas's History
Palmitas became an official "Pueblo" (which means village in Spanish) on November 6, 1953. This change happened because of a special law, Ley Nº 12.021.
Before becoming a village, Palmitas was the main center for a judicial area. This area was known as "Coquimbo."
